Our New Year’s Resolutions

The holidays are officially behind us, the tree is either still up or aggressively gone (if it’s the former, more on that below…), and we’re easing into a fresh year, which means it’s also resolution season, South Hills–style:

  • Avoid Banksville Road at all costs (we know… good luck)

  • Buy more than one bag of salt at a time like someone who’s lived through a Pittsburgh winter before

  • Pet more dogs

  • Host more neighborhood block parties

  • Stop trusting that one shortcut through Dormont that definitely isn’t saving time

  • Explore more South Hills spots and support the local businesses that make our neighborhoods feel like home

💪 New Year, New Routine

If our lovely steep hills aren’t giving you the workout you need, there are no shortage of locally-owned gyms, studios, and sweat-inducing options around the South Hills. Whether you’re easing in gently or diving in headfirst, here are a few spots worth checking out right now:

Mecka Fitness
Everything under one roof: BodyLab (half treadmill, half floor workouts), yoga, Mecka Blend, bootcamp-style strength + conditioning and more. They’re currently running a $26 one-month challenge—with accountability baked in. You have to hit 4 classes a week, or you pay the rest of the membership ($137). Motivating? Yes. Slightly intimidating? Also yes.

Burn Boot Camp - Bethel Park
High-energy workouts, great trainers, and a community that will absolutely notice if you skip leg day. Right now it’s 4 weeks of unlimited classes for $69, which is a pretty solid way to see if it’s your thing.

Punch PGH
Boxing-based cardio and strength that lets you work out and work through whatever 2025 left behind. First class is free, plus $20 off monthly memberships for new members.

Sweat PGH
A wide variety of classes, solid programming, and flexible options depending on how committed you’re feeling this week. They’re currently offering 15% off your first three months.

South Hills Power Yoga
Hot yoga for anyone looking to stretch, sweat, and reset after the holidays. Breathe in, breathe out and sign up here for whatever membership will best align your chakras.

Whether you’re committing to a full routine or just trying to justify that extra holiday cookie, the South Hills has you covered. Pick a spot, show up once, and see what happens.

💆🏻‍♀️ Rest and Recover

This isn’t about training harder. It’s about surviving winter, traffic, and your calendar with a little more calm. These South Hills spots make that part easier.

Nourish and Move
A true recovery-and-reset spot offering acupuncture, therapeutic massage, breathwork, and mobility-focused movement. Ideal if you’re looking to address stress, soreness, or lingering back pain from all of the snow you’ve already shoveled this winter (it’s only January…).

Rejoove by Mecka
Hot. Cold. Repeat. Rejoove is the kind of place you go when your body needs a reset: infrared saunas, cold plunge, and contrast therapy that makes you feel dramatically better in under an hour. Equal parts recovery, resilience, and “why didn’t I do this sooner.”

Roots Chiropractic
A go-to South Hills spot for pregnant and postpartum moms, babies, kids, and whole-family care. Bonus: they have the toy situation fully handled, making this a perfect winter outing for those little ones that have been cooped up all day.

True REST Float Spa - South Hills
Float tanks for deep relaxation, mental reset, and muscle relief. It’s like telling your nervous system to take a paid day off.

❄️ Snow Angels Are Back in Mt. Lebanon

Snow in South Hills isn’t going anywhere and neither is Mt. Lebanon’s Snow Angels program. Each winter, Mt. Lebanon matches volunteers with neighbors who need a little help keeping their sidewalks clear after a snowfall.

Becoming a Snow Angel doesn’t require wings (or superpowers). Volunteers just need to be 15 or older or teamed up with a parent or guardian, and willing to commit to helping at least one household this winter. You’ll bring your own shovel, but you’ll also bring some peace of mind to a neighbor who could really use it.

To sign up to volunteer, call 412.343.7032 or fill out this form. And if you or someone you know is in need of shoveling assistance, call the number or fill out this form.

A little shoveling goes a long way. And yes, it counts as cardio.

🎄Your Christmas Tree’s Next Chapter
