Before we slide headfirst into the chaos of the season, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on all the little joys that make life in the South Hills what it is. Here’s what’s keeping our hearts full:

  • The chicken tenders at Reds Good News. The finest in all of the South Hills.

  • The magical moment when the Fort Couch / Washington Rd intersection actually lets you through on the first light cycle. A local miracle. Should be a feast day.

  • The heated debates over who has the best pizza in the South Hills— Mineo’s, Fiori’s, Badamo’s, Aiello’s, Beto’s—a tradition older than some of our cul-de-sacs.

  • Anyone who claims they can “shortcut” through Castle Shannon to avoid traffic. We salute your confidence. We question your route choices.

  • That one neighbor whose Halloween decorations go up in September. They are the backbone of the community.

  • The rite of passage that is learning the difference between Washington Road, West Liberty Avenue, and Route 19. Three roads. One identity crisis.

Most of all, we’re thankful for our amazing community in this beautiful place we get to call home.

Holiday Spirit, Unlocked

If you’re looking to jump-start your holiday cheer (or at least pretend you’re the kind of person who has their life together before December 20th), Trax Farms has you covered. Yes, you can cut your own Christmas tree—a glorious annual tradition that combines fresh pine scent, mild cardio, and the satisfying illusion that you are, in fact, a rugged outdoor lumber hero.

South Hills Shops, Holiday Stops

Small Business Saturday is the one day a year when “just popping in for a minute” turns into finding the perfect candle, cozy scarf, handmade mug, or snack you absolutely deserved. The talented businesses in Dormont teamed up to create the perfect thing to kickstart your Small Biz Saturday.

Think of this guide as your festive field manual: a friendly roadmap to all the small places doing big things. So bundle up, bring a friend, and prepare to support the shops that make the South Hills feel like home — one delightful find at a time. You can find these in many businesses across Dormont. Happy exploring!
